What is conversion tracking and why is it so important?

When you launch an online marketing campaign for your property, oftentimes, it can be a little difficult to track your success. While each business will likely have different campaign goals, within the property industry, goals typically take the form of two–leads and number of renters. This is where conversion goals can help.

What is a conversion?

Conversions are generally the primary measure of success for most any business; but, when it comes to Google ads, they occur when a visitor to your website actually clicks on your ad and performs one of your desired actions–be it contact your office, schedule a visit or, of course, sign on the dotted line. While conversion goals can vary based on your desired intention, you do have the ability to define the particular goal that you would like to measure and then view the tracking data to help you make more informed decisions about your campaign.

What is conversion tracking?

Conversion tracking is a free tool within your Google Analytics platform that shows you exactly what takes place after your visitors interact with one of your ads. When the customer completes this action, they have essentially “converted” and your ad has done exactly what it was supposed to do. Tracking conversions lets you delve into the weeds of your website and ad to really determine which keywords, ad types and campaigns are truly performing and, ultimately, giving you the most bang for your buck. You can even view cross-device and cross-browser data to see how many customers are interacting with your ads on one device or browser and then converting on another in your “All conversions” column within Analytics.

Implementing conversion tracking for your ads

To begin tracking your conversions, you’ll need to first add a conversion tracking code to your website code. Then, each time a customer clicks on your ad from Google, a temporary cookie will be placed on their computer or mobile device. When the desired action based on what you initially defined is completed, then Analytics will go to work and record that conversion for you to view later. After analyzing the data, you can then spot trends and work on optimizing certain pages of your website to increase your success.

With the power of conversion tracking, you’re able to make smarter marketing decisions for your property. By gaining a greater understanding of which keywords and search terms generate your conversions, you’ll know exactly where to focus your marketing efforts in future campaigns; thus, setting you up for greater success.
